Artist's Description

Then and Now
Deadwood, South Dakota

On August 2nd, 1879, Wild Bill Hickok, legendary lawman of the Old West, was killed in the bar here that now bears his name. Careful efforts in preservation and restoration have kept Deadwood an iconic symbol of Western life all these many years. The town's history though, is even more important to me personally. While in Deadwood I learned my grandfather and grandmother received their marriage license here more than a hundred years ago. No doubt, as a young couple in love, they strolled down this very street holding hands on a beautiful night such as this, with the exact same stars twinkling overhead. What a picture that would make! - Dan McGeorge
