Artist's Description

Laguna Moon
Lakeside, California

Known as the "Snow Moon" this moonrise took place just before sunset on February 8, 2020. Just a hint of light still illuminated the mountains in the distance, about 50 miles away, and also the foreground trees, which were only about a quarter mile away. The sky was pink, the result of the setting sun lighting the atmosphere just at sunset. The photograph was taken with a long telephoto lens, which magnified the size of the moon, and made the distant mountains appear closer. This was done on purpose. For photo enthusiasts a small aperture was used in order to bring the foreground trees into apparent focus. It was a striking scene and the colors were dramatic. -Dan McGeorge
