Cruise'n the Moon
San Diego, California
Some things you can plan for. And I had. A full moon was setting above Point Loma on a morning with clear skies, and my objective was to capture it near the lighthouse at Cabrillo National Monument. While waiting for it to fall to the horizon I noticed a light appear way out to sea. Gradually it became brighter and my heart began to pound when I saw it was a brilliant cruise ship, fully lighted from stem to stern, approaching Point Loma on its arrival to San Diego. It was a surreal sight, as if it were suspended in the deep blue of twilight. What good fortune to be there. I composed the frame and then patiently waited until the ship inched its way to the perfect position. Right place, right time, right equipment, and Mother Nature cooperating to the fullest. It was a magnificent moment! -Dan McGeorge
