Artist's Description

Waves of Sand
Coronado, California

A powerful storm set upon California January 31st, 2016 driven by this year's El Nino. Late in the afternoon I walked down to the beach to see what it was like and was greeted by massive streaks of sand being driven by the strong winds over the beach, still wet from earlier rains. It was the combination of dry and wet sand that allowed this unusual scene to occur. The look given by troughs collecting sand contrasted against the texture of the rest of the beach gave the impression of ocean waves crashing just before reaching the beautiful Hotel del Coronado. It was such a rare sight here, and I'd be surprised if it ever happens again. -Dan McGeorge
