Artist's Description

Valentine Del
Coronado, California

I had walked down the beach to the shipwreck, the Monte Carlo, to try a sunset, twilight image of the remains of this 1930's era gambling ship. Too many people, uncooperative tides, and poor light provided me nothing but a good soaking. Headed back to the gallery after dark I passed by the Hotel del Coronado and noticed right away something very different. The turret had been lit with red lighting, and adorned with a few hearts. It was definitely in the Valentine spirit! Truly fitting for such a romantic place. The sky had darkened to a deep blue, and bright stars twinkled in the clear air. The colors of the scene were a perfect combination, and the beauty of the lighting was superb. I just couldn't resist the urge to stop, still dripping from my earlier foray into the surf, and capture this striking scene. Happy Valentine's Day! -Dan McGeorge
