Reflecting on Half Dome
Yosemite National Park

Early on a crisp winter morning I made my way over crunchy ice and snow to the edge of the Merced River in Yosemite Valley. Planting myself on the shore I waited for morning light to come. It was really cold! Gradually the light became brighter and with it a beautiful blue developed in the sky. Still the scene was not complete. Small wisps of clouds danced around the peak of Half Dome, but I sensed more clouds were on their way. Patiently I waited, and was rewarded by some beautifully white clouds which made their way into the scene. The contrast of colors between sky, water, clouds and trees was striking. Bits of foam on the river's surface were transformed into soft streaks across the water as they slowly floated by. -Dan McGeorge
