Maroon Bells
Aspen, Colorado
It was still dark when the alarm woke me at 4:00 am. The Maroon Bells near Aspen, Colorado were only about an hour away, and I headed out to be there well before sunrise. Alone on the edge of a lake of glass I awaited the first sign of daylight. Broken clouds above, still grey in the pre-dawn light, told me the possibility of something extraordinary was developing. Gradually the high clouds began to turn orange with the arrival of the morning sun. Its powerful golden rays inched slowly down the rugged face of the Bells until the entire scene exploded in color. I felt so humble to witness such a perfect sight, and thrilled to be able to capture it so others who weren't there could experience it as well. -Dan McGeorge
