Sunset had been pretty. Beautiful of course to observe, but photographically it had been pretty much like so many others. I'd walked back up from the beach and stopped to talk with a friend. As the sun disappeared behind Point Loma and the sky began to darken into gray it became time to pack it in and head home. Just before leaving I noticed a bit of color, ever so slight, developing in the distant clouds. As it grew in intensity and size it became apparent something extraordinary was brewing. I ran quickly back to the edge of the water, set up again, and then just stood there and marveled at what began to unfold. Gently breaking waves gradually swept onto the sand leaving a textured reflective film at my feet that captured the remarkable reds and blues spreading across the sky like delicate chiffon draperies suspended above the sea. It was one of those rare moments that will not be forgotten. -Dan McGeorge
