Description
The rare Blood Moon Eclipse event of September 27, 2015 unfolded at a perfect time to photograph. I found a location high above the northern part of San Diego and waited with hundreds of others for sunset. Just then the Blue Angels flight team landed at an airbase in the foreground and the large cloud of black smoke they left behind filled the sky, obscuring the spot where the moon would rise. A couple of hours later however, as the eclipse reached its apex, high above the horizon the residual smoke glowed golden in the city lights, adding to an already dramatic scene of moon and stars, which looked as though they were suspended above in the night sky.
