Bird Flight
Coronado, California
Certain times of the year foundations from structures that stood on the beach long ago are revealed when sand is washed away and the tide is low. Wanting to capture their unique beauty one evening I composed a composition and waited for the light to develop. As I waited a group of sand pipers made their way along the shore to the concrete abutments. It was an interesting sight watching them digging in the shallow surf for their dinner. Suddenly, one by one they began to take flight in front of me. Their movement, and the clear image of three that were last to follow, created a beautiful combination of the old and worn contrasted against the vigor and excitement of life in the fading light of dusk.
