Artist's Description
Balboa Bridge
San Diego, California
Finally the lights are on! For some time traffic on Highway 163 through Balboa Park has been more than tedious. The beautiful Laurel Street Bridge, which leads into the park from San Diego, was being renovated and retrofitted to meet earthquake standards. At last the work was finished and all the traffic lanes were opened up once again. Unanticipated was the installation of new architectural lighting. Brilliantly done, these new lights bathed the bridge in golden tones and in the evening hours brought the bridge to life. The contrast against the rich blues of twilight with the stately California Tower standing tall provided a compelling scene to photograph. -Dan McGeorge
