Artist's Description

Survivors
Big Bear, California

Nested within a well-pecked tree in the mountains of Big Bear a family of woodpeckers seemed to be thriving. In spite of bitter cold and falling snow they managed to do quite well, with an ample supply of acorns gathered in the woods nearby. These two put on quite a show as they slipped quickly in and out of carefully crafted openings. The winter weather didn't seem to faze them in the slightest. I felt fortunate to record their activity up close and personal. -Dan McGeorge
