Each Christmas the Hotel del Coronado is highlighted with more than 100,000 glittering lights. It was a perfect evening with cold, clear air. Shortly after sunset the beautiful building stood out like a spectacular beacon under the darkening night sky. No dramatic reflections were present because an extremely low tide had left the water far from its normal sandy slope. There was something strikingly simplistic however about the scene, and as I studied it the essence and purity of this beautiful landmark was so powerful all by itself I knew this had to be the image I wanted. Pure and simple.
