Scrambling out of my tiny freezing room in Dingboche Nepal, equipment in hand, I headed out into an even more freezing Himalayan morning. At 14,469 feet this tiny outpost on the way to Mount Everest is situated amongst amazing mountain views. It was at sunrise, with patches of ice everywhere as I made my way to a vantage point of Everest I'd found the night before. Clouds had obscured the mountain however, but in the opposite direction the sun's early rays were painting distant clouds in fiery orange behind and below rapidly developing storm clouds. Standing at the edge of a thousand foot drop I worked quickly, as the sunlit sky was soon to be covered with clouds, and the magic of this incredible moment would be gone. Almost as quickly as it occurred it faded and disappeared, leaving only the indelible memory of the moment, and the image I was able to capture there to share. - Dan McGeorge.
